How did Deregistration by SympatMe begin?

The idea for this project came in 2013. Many of our international friends were moving to Germany at the time. They knew that we lived in Berlin, so they came to us for help. They kept asking the same questions. They kept having the same problems. They all struggled, mainly because official forms and documents are only available in German. There are no English translations. When they tried to ask a German clerk for assistance, they would rarely encounter someone who’s English was good enough.

We understand and support the notion that people who move to Germany should try to learn German. Within the first few days of arriving that seems a bit much to expect though. Even though German is our mothertongue, We need to read carefully to understand some bureaucratic documents. So how can anyone expect non-native speakers to understand them?

In our opinion, one can’t. That’s why Oliver and Yvonne embarked on this project. The idea was to give expats and immigrants in Germany the tools with which they could deal with German bureaucracy in their own language. That’s why we translated most important official documents and application forms into various languages.

How does Deregistration by SympatMe work?

On our website you can fill out German bureaucratic documents and application forms in your own language. You can fill out the deregistration form in different languages. Once completed, all your data is automatically transferred onto the original German form.

Depending on the package you choose, we will do all the paperwork for you. You will receive your certificate of departure after a while. But you can also save money and do some things yourself. We will then explain step-by-step what you need to do.

Since 2014 we have completed more than 15,750 cases and new ones are added daily. If you have any questions during the process you can always contact us. We are by your side the whole time.
