How to cancel Rundfunkbeitrag / GEZ / Radio Tax in Germany
This is an issue that is often forgotten by foreigners who leave Germany. It isn’t enough to notify the citizen’s office that you are leaving the country. An additional notification to the Beitragsservice will be necessary so they take you out of their database. If you don’t do that and come back to Germany; they will look for you, they will find you, they will make you pay.
Until recently, we offered this service to our customers via snail mail – fortunately, this is no longer necessary thanks to digitalisation.
In short: Cancel your contribution online
In order to deregister from the German broadcasting service, you need a confirmation of the deregistration of your residence – in digital form (e.g. scan or photo).

Unfortunately, the service is currently only available in German. We have therefore described the steps in detail below.

The confirmation can only be sent to a German address.
If you do not check this box, the cancellation confirmation will be sent to your current address in Germany. It is important that your name remains on the mailbox for a few weeks.
If you want someone else (person/company) to receive the cancellation confirmation, tick the box and fill in the data.
